Milca joined NLO Shieldmark in 2005. Prior to this, she had acquired twenty years’ experience at other Dutch trademark firms, which included setting up and managing an office in Amsterdam. Besides her position as senior trademark and design attorney, she has also had various management positions (including Manager Trademarks).
Milca specialises in trademarks and designs (including research, registration, conflict management and mediation, opposition proceedings, strategic advice), but also has wide-ranging knowledge relating to trade names, copyright and domain names. Milca mainly works for big clients, but loves the diversity in size and sectors of her clients.
Milca qualified in 1994 and is a registered Benelux Trademark and Design attorney. In 1996, she also became a European Trademark and Design attorney for the Trademarks and Designs Registration Office of the European Union (EUIPO) in Alicante.
Milca is a member of the Benelux Association for Trademark and Design Law (BMM) and the International Trademark Association (INTA). She is a long-serving member of the Examination Board of the BMM. Milca is currently a member of the board of the professional education programme of the Benelux Association for Trademark and Design Law (BBMM) and is the exam coordinator of this organisation.
Fake invoices are unfortunately a well known problem among trademark owners. A fake invoice is a misleading invoice (or letter) which reffers to a trademark, design, patent or patent application. A payment is requested for a publication in a register or to extend the validity of a registration.They use names like Worldwide database or Trademarks and Patents, Euro IP Register, International Patent & Trademark Database.
